A friend
now deceased had this rifle built by Jerry Kirklin from Birmingham
Michigan. The rifle is based on the rifles by Christian Oerter as shown
in George Shumways Rifles of Colonial America Vol. 1 as rifles 44 &
45. While Shumway lists the extensive wire work as brass, the
information from England (where the # 44 rifle is in the Royal Armory at
Windsor Castle) received by the original owner said the wire was
silver. Thus the wire on this rifle by Jerry Kirklin is silver.
It is a really nice rendition of the Oerter rifles which are thought to be made at Christian Spring a Moravian Community in Pennsylvania about 1775. Oerter died at the age of 29 on May 18, 1777. Enjoy the pictures of a fine rifle by a master craftsman, Jerry Kirklin.
