When Dalton Halbrook retired from his position a Chief of Enforcement
with the Alabama Game and Fish Division, one of his retirement gifts was a
big flint Hawken rifle built by Tim Cosby. No flint Hawken mountain
rifles are known to have survived in the original flint condition so this
rifle is just an example of what could have been. Dalton is a big tall
man and needed a rifle to fit, so drop length of pull (almost 16") had
to be adjusted. The rifle fit perfectly and from the first shot has
never need a sight adjustment. They remain as they were installed. A .60
cal Getz 1 1/8 to 1" tapered barrel, L&R lock, and Davis Hawken
triggers were used along with a piece of Alabama walnut to build the
rifle. A fine pair Dalton (Huggin Bear) Halbrook and a flint Hawken
rifle. They're good company to travel with.
