This week's post is a 3/4" across the flats, 42" long, .30cal. rifle by Mike Miller with all forged furniture.  It is based on a No. Caroline from Randolph or Guilford county.  According to Mr. Ivey's book on NC rifles, this was about the only area in NC where gunsmith's used the swiveling box.  It is such a simple idea that it should have been used in other areas.  This rifle is really fun to shoot.  Like a rimfire.  Light weight and next to no recoil with fast ignition.  Handling the .30cal. balls and tiny patches can be frustrating, but a loading block helps with the chore.  This rifle has moved on to its next owner is currently on loan to the Elwood Farge' Multicultural exhibit in Yon-buri, Korea.
