This is Keith Vance’s rendition of the award winning “Running Deer “ rifle.
The
original version of this piece (circa 1760-1770) recently sold at Rock
Island Auction for a realized price of $161000.00. It was a best of show
award winner at a recent KRA show.
Keith’s
version has a 44” swamped 50 cal FCI barrel with a Chambers Deluxe Siler
lock and Brooks guard. Keith even harvested the tree that this stock
was made from.
I’m planning on finishing the project with brass nails that came on the original.
This is the link to the Rock Island Auctions blog with some history of the original rifle.
Here is the finished patchbox with the nails added.
