It was well after dark, and the hogs were feeding in the field at the Bottom stand. However they had not made it to the motion light for a good shot.. Tim, hunting with his Mike Brooks .54cal. flintlock, was patiently waiting. When all of a sudden, he sees headlights coming down the trail.
We had decided on leaving around 10pm but were debating staying another hour. Because the cell service is spotty that far out in the woods, contact is hard to maintain, and we didn't get together on the time. Dewitt had decided to leave a few minutes early and pick Tim up at 10pm at the Bottom stand. So, here sits Tim with a field full of hogs in the moonlight and Dewitt driving down the trail. What's a feller to do. Panic time!! Tim takes his little white light and shines it down the barrel to the treetops. This lights up the sights and field of fire. Then he slowly lowers the rifle to illuminate the hogs. They pay no attention to the white light. They probably think it is a cloud passing by the moon. Tim picks one out and lets the .54 eat. When the smoke clears, the hog is laying there shot dead on the spot. Hit squarely in the shoulder. An added bonus is that DeWitt is already there with the buggy to help load up the pig.
