Back
in October I posted a story on Max Weader getting a .25 Cal. squirrel
rifle that his Dad, Mark Weader, made. Well it seems that Max has
developed into quite the Longhunter. He really enjoys trekking and going
to the trail walk shoots with his Dad an their friends. Max really
shined for a youngster at the trail walk competitions he has been
attending at a local club. He came in sixth overall out of twenty
shooters. Seeing as how Max is thirteen and the other nineteen are
adults that is a real accomplishment. Not bad young man.
One picture is of Max selecting his prize at the awards ceremony and the other is Max shooting the trail walk competition.
Max Weader really likes hunting squirrels with a flintlock and wanted to
squirrel hunt and primitive camp. His Dad (Mark Weader) likes the
squirrel hunting but not necessarily the primitive camping. Max
discovered a family friend, noted barrel barrel maker Bobby Hoyt, really
enjoyed both and had the equipment to do a fine squirrel hunt and
primitive camp.
A weekend in early November was selected
and the squirrel hunt and primitive camp really happened. Max and Bobby
had a wonderful time squirrel hunting, sitting around a campfire, and
sleeping under the stars. Not too mention cooking and eating the
squirrels they harvested along with other longhunter vittles they
prepared. What kid wouldn't enjoy camping and hunting with a mentor like
Bobby Hoyt? Max is now a confirmed buckskinner/longhunter. Good on ya
Bobby for taking him under your wing and teaching Max to do it the old
way.
