Mike Grimes get his first flintlock deer.

Because hunting with a centerfire rifle was getting too automatic, Mike decided that hunting with an open-sighted flintlock would be more of a challenge.  He was tired of the "see the deer-kill the deer" way of hunting with a scoped rifle.  He asked his cousin, Tim Cosby, about finding a builder for a nice custom rifle.  Tim recommended Joe Schell of New Burnside, Illinois.  They ordered a nice early style rifle with all brass furniture.  It is a .54cal. flinter with a wooden patchbox based on RCA #19. Then the wait began.  These rifles aren't sold at Walmart.  They are built one at a time.  You wait for your turn to come up on the builder's schedule.  After some time the rifle was delivered and sighted  in.  Today was the payoff for all that effort and waiting.  Mike got a nice buck with his Schell rifle.
