And another one bites the dust!!

We had a successful hunt today.  Tim Cosby, his grandson Hunter, and I went to the woods today.  Got up early before the Alabama heat kicked in.  Seems like the hogs are more active in the mornings, but we have seen them in the fields at all hours.  Today they were on the bait waiting for me to get there.  I sneaked up into the stand just as dawn was breaking.  The hogs were feeding on the bait in the shadows.  Couldn't quite see my front sight and thought I was going to have to wait for good light.  Of course, this gives them time to catch your scent so it is a nerve wracking gamble.  Then this one had a brain fade and walked out toward the bait in the lighter part of the field.  I think the others were bumping her out of the main holes. That also made it a 50yd. shot instead of a 70yd. shot.  It was a bad move on her part.  The better light gave me just enough light to pick up the front sight, and the .54 flinter barked.

A more dramatic story would be to say that she charged me on the road into the stand, and I shot as her as she charged, but no one would believe it because it would be too hard to accurately shoot a rifle that long over your shoulder while running for a tree. ;-)
