Here we have a rifle built in the early 80s. It was built by Murrell Amos of Paducah, Ky. It has a .50cal. swamped Paris barrel. The rifle is built from designs and furniture by John Bivins. The metal is bead blasted and hot blued. The different alloys(the foundries weren't too concerned about what they used for this type of work.) of the castings caused some of the parts to be off color. The wood is a super premium piece of wood from the late Freddie Harrison. Murrell was a perfectionist type of builder. He didn't believe in doing it the old way. He wanted to do his best each time. Hard to believe, but he did the carving with a sharp pocketknife.
This lock has stayed like this since the gun was built with nothing but a wipe of G96 once in a while.
Due to the hard alloy of the steel he hard to continually sharpen his gravers. Every time he turned a corner the tip broke.
