Max Weader Ends/Starts a year in great form!!

Natty Bumppo was the lead character in James Fenimore Cooper's series of books known as The Leather Stocking Tales. Called Deerslayer in one of the books, Natty was also known as Hawkeye and other sobriquets in the series of books. However, this blog entry is about a young Deerslayer, even though, Hawkeye would also be appropriate.
If James Fenimore Cooper could of had the privilege of knowing a 15 year old nimrod named Max Weader, I feel sure he would have given him the nickname Deerslayer.
Max has been hunting with his dad Mark for several years. Having a Dad that is all about muzzleloaders and particularly fond of flintlocks, Max just naturally came to like them also.
Mark and Max traveled to their hunting camp in Pennsylvania for their last deer hunt as the Pennsylvania deer season was soon to be over.
Max (the Deerslayer) finished in fine fashion. On the next to last day at camp he harvested really big fat doe. He used a .50 cal. Lancaster Isaac Haines style made by Mark. To top that off the last day they were in camp the Deerslayer killed a fine eight point buck using yet another .50 cal. halfstock flintlock rifle built by his Dad.
Max is justifiably proud of both deer because he harvested them with flintlocks built by his Dad. He is even more thrilled that one was bagged December 31, 2021 and the other was killed January 1, 2022. What a way to end one year and start a new year. To date these deer are number seven and eight the Deerslayer has harvested with flintlock rifles.
I think Cooper would gladly bestow the title Deerslayer on Max. Way to go young man.

Pictures Max with big doe and Mark and Max with the eight point.
