New rifle from Ted Kramer

I just received these pictures from Ted.  It is his latest rifle.  He has wanted to build a North Carolina Randolph/Guilford county styled rifle.  He used a 15/16" straight .50cal. barrel and an L&R lock.  The latch is a project by itself.  Here is Ted's description of the innovative latch design.

"Anyway, it's my first pivoting PB lid and of course I wanted something different than normally seen so the result was a waaaaay over-engineered latch. It sure works slick though and snaps shut with a nice "click" as the latch pops into place. The latch part is mounted in the butt stock and is spring loaded, like the hand in a single action revolver. It is shaped like a ramp and as the door is pivoted shut, it is pushed down, then pops up to latch in a slotted metal plate fixed to the underside of the lid. The button in the door is held in by the plate and simply pushes the latch down out of the slot when depressed so the door can pivot. When closed and latched, a shallow 'hooked' tab (seen in the picture when the lid is open) engages the plate on the underside of the lid to prevent it from ever getting pulled out away from the stock."
